Passed away recently -November 1, 2008- Yma Sumac was a Peruvian singer with an amazing voice of unusual FIVE OCTAVE range, she was said to have been a descendant of Inca kings. Her offbeat stylings became a phenomenon of early 50s pop music. There has been no one like her before or since in the annals of popular music.
We want to pay tribute to the career of a very singular voice reintroducing this CD, an amazing live album from his acclaimed 1961 Russian Tour. Appearing at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Yma Sumac performs the ancient songs from Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, captivating an audience that had never experienced such a variety of emotions or heard such exotic and beautiful music.
