"The follow up to the superb Las Damas Del Tango gives us as much variety and rarity as the first volume, presenting 20 different singers, many of them previously unheard. The educated eye will leap straight to the name of Malena de Todo, singer with the legendary Vardaro-Pugliese sextet and muse for Manzi's immortal tango. Here she is, if not in the flesh, then in her own voice! Malena's voice is not the refined soprano of Libertad Lamarque or even Azucena Maizani; this is a much earthier sound, with restrained flashes of character, more like Rosita Quiroga. The three minutes are over all too quickly.
The real highlight of this disc though is the opening track, Clavel Del Aire, arranged for guitar and harmonium, sung by Patrocinio Diaz. It's heartbreaking; the first time I heard it I could not bear to listen to it all the way through. Amazing stuff. Who were the other musician(s)? El Bandoneón don't tell us.
This disc is every bit as good as it's predecessor. Strongly recommended."
