The Warsaw Jazz Jamboree has been a tradition in Warsaw, Poland for more than 30 years. The U.S. government provided funds through the Polish Jazz Society to "Needle" the Communist rulers of Poland by helping to bring jazz to the oppressed citizens of Poland. After all, jazz is not only America's only original art form, but the epitome of "free" expression.
When Poland became free, our State Department no longer had a "budget" to support the Warsaw Jazz Jamboree. The Polish Jazz Society turned to Who's Who In Jazz to raise funds and produce the 1991 Jazz Jamboree.
We choose as our venue the beautiful and acoustically excellent Operetka House. The Polish press reviewed our four nights of concerts and pronounced the festival, "the greatest event in the history of jazz in Poland."
