In the 1960s, the Sambalanço Trio managed to place itself at the forefront of modern popular Brazilian music, imposing a very pure sound and a style that was enterely personal.

It was formed by young composers, instrumentalists and interpreters influenced by jazz but strongly involved in bossa nova's beginning. Those recordings that were one of the great bossa nova releases of 1965, confirmed the position of this trio in the vanguard of the new Brazilian movement, after having conquered it with the first album.

They proved too the perfect musical marriage of the three musicians and Ayrto (or Airto) Moreira's talent, as much on percussion as a singer.

Review:

"Of the many instrumental trios active in Brazil in the mid-'60s, Sambalanço Trio had not only one of the best pianists in César Camargo Mariano but also the best percussionist, hands down, in Airto Moreira. (Bassist Humberto Clayber was no slouch either.) Improviso Negro showed them expanding their dynamic range over their early LPs, ranging from tender balladry to clattering bossa nova workouts. The songs include three by the great Marcos Valle, one by Edú Lobo, and one by Lúcio Alves, plus two solid compositions by the band itself."
