Music is the art of communicating ideas and sharing aesthetic and emotional views about the world and the intangible.
Going through this process with Chris, Jorge, and Michael is very special, not only because I grew up listening to their music, but because of the ease of being around and working with them. These sensitive and inspired musicians privilege the collective aspects of music making to the detriment of the individual ones and work tirelessly for the group.
Even though I often compose original music, I always go back to standards as a source of inspiration. The melodies and harmonies of these tunes sound always fresh and constantly stimulate new improvisational ideas. The qualities of the repertoire of this recording and the narrative drive of these musicians provided just the right environment to conceptualize and develop the landscapes and stories presented here.
I hope this recording sounds as special to the listener as it was for us to record.
