Listening to this collection of pieces from “Landscapes,” one becomes so beautifully drawn into the musical designs, the architecture and the colors described in the melodious storytelling qualities of Nicole's voice and sense of expression as a player and as a composer/arranger.
Her saxophone tone... is full, rich and self-assured with balance and nuance in all ranges of the alto saxophone. Her improvisations are creative and informed by the jazz tradition in their substance and daring.
The moods offered in these compositions present at once a sense of ease in navigating some adventurous rhythmic pulses and some challenging harmonic movements. They are well-crafted and make for great listening. This is a testament to Nicole's fine musicianship and her choices of superb personnel who it seems for this recording project, became equally invested in making the music feel good.
