The compositions of “Coffee Break” were born during the series of concerts that followed the release of my previous album, “Plays the Music of Hank Jones.” While composing, the first pieces I wrote evoked a particular sound, and I immediately thought of Peter Bernstein. His phrasing and timing—always inspired and melodic, with a personal and unique tone deeply rooted in the history of this music—gave my compositions the color I had dreamed of.
I was keen to have my faithful companions by my side: Viktorija, Mourad, and Michel, with whom I have shared stages, tours, and studios for many years, as well as special guests like Darryl, Peter, and Hiroshi.
I would like to thank Jordi for once again trusting me with this album and for the immense work he does to keep jazz alive, Neil for the sound recording in the magical space that is Zoot Studio, and Max for the mixing and mastering.
