The Perfect Miles Davis Collection - 20 Original Albums (Box Set)

Miles Davis (1926-1991) was truly one of the true great pioneers of jazz, and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century. His expansive career, spanning almost half a century, procured 48 studio albums and 36 live albums; quite the legacy! Davis placed himself at the forefront of the development of jazz, pioneering styles such as bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz and jazz fusion.

The signing of Miles Davis to Columbia Records made musical history in 1955. Miles continued to make musical history for decades to come, changing the course of jazz (and in the process, popular and avant-garde music) "four of five times", as he once himself quipped. There were important albums under his name in the late 1940s and '50s before his arrival at Columbia, and there were also notable albums after his years at Columbia from 1968 until his death in 1991. But Columbia Records became the repository for the overwhelming majority of the signature albums recorded by Miles in his lifetime, many of them with long-time producer and collaborator Teo Macero.

This incredible box set contains 20 of Davis' legendary albums, ranging from 1957 to 1984 during his time with Columbia Records. Each CD comes in a card sleeve with the original LP album cover art (back and front covers), all inside a rigid lift-off box. The 30-page colour booklet included contains a comprehensive overview of each album in both English and French, with full credits and track listings, alongside photographs.

This Miles collection is being released with the more casual Jazz consumer in mind as a first-time boxset purchase of Miles work and commemorates the 20th anniversary of his death which fell on the 28th September 2011.
