After his well received debut, a new CD by Michael Simon. "New York Encounter" is also the title song specially written for the recordings made in the Big Apple, inspired by the reunion of the trumpeter with his two older brothers drummer-percussionist Marlon Simon and pianist Edward Simon, reinforced by a 'dream team' of outstanding artists from the current Latin Jazz world, including alto sax Miguel Zenón and bassist legend Andy González among others.
The music of Michel Simon has its roots in his Venezuelan heritage and in Hard Bop and Afro-Caribbean Jazz, but it frequently goes in surprising directions. Composer of six of the eight tracks, the repertoire varies from very groovy and energetic, to straight ahead jazz and subtle pieces. It is a giant step forward for Michael Simon, both as a writer and as a trumpeter, and shows that the Simon brothers are one of the most talented families in Jazz.
