We know what Monk’s mood was like, and Moody’s. Pyro’s seems to be deeply serious, maybe a bit intense, but packed with urgent dialogue and invention. Great writing for the horns, who get lots of creative space, and effective use of guest players. Lovely, revealing versions of Skylark and Wayne Shorter’s Fall probably give the clearest sense of how Barroso’s musical mind works.
