"Alberto Echagüe was D'Arienzo's most popular and most enduring singer (although not perhaps his best: that accolade would go to Hector Mauré). This new disc, which includes three milongas - all by the Uruguayan Pintin Castellanos - is full of the feel-good fun that characterises D'Arienzo.
Candombe Oriental in particular is a very characteristic and terribly witty D'Arienzo arrangement, with a sudden stop in the music at the 1'20" mark which lasts exactly one beat longer than you think it should. Dancers will be falling over all over Europe.
As far as the fidelity of the recordings goes, some of the 78s are a little worn but never unpleasantly so and the transfers are quite acceptable. Moreover there's only a single track in common with the Tango Argentino D'Arienzo/Echagüe disc Joyas del Lunfardo. D'Arienzo enthusiasts need not hesitate."
