This second album from Geni Barry, Looking Back Again!, continues from the first volume as a compilation of live recordings spanning from 1999 to 2016. A disciple of jazz legends Tete Montoliu and Bobby Hutcherson, Barry displays his exceptional skills as a vibraphonist, performing alongside a range of ensembles he’s collaborated with throughout his extensive career. The album presents a repertoire of pieces by jazz greats, each interpreted with Barry’s unique touch.
Barry has played at numerous national and international festivals, earning acclaim from both critics and audiences alike. He extends heartfelt thanks to the musicians who joined him on these recordings and who helped bring this album to life.
"Spain-born vibist Geni Barry is caught in various live recordings, mixing and matching between duo, trio, quartet all the way to big band on this toe tapping release.
There’s a conversational and spark flying duo with pianist Albert Bover on “Solar” before the rest of the quartet joins in for a glorious “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Y our Life” and get nifty on Bobby Hutcherson’s “Little B’s Poem”. In a pair of drummerless trio formats, Barry bounces to “You Know I Care” and his own “Victoria” while with added drum son a 1999 TV show, he dazzles on a sleek “Seven Steps To Heaven” and goes bel canto on “My Foolish Heart.” The Big Band tunes stretch out on the opus of “Samba Dees Codda Do It” and sear through a swinging “CottonTail”. Charming chimes."
