27 tracks showcasing Hines' amazing piano playing solo, in trio format and with his own orchestra. Featuring Sidney Bechet, Oscar Pettiford, Budd Johnson, Benny Harris & Billy Eckstine.
The first items are piano solos and include a version of Hines' most famous composition: "Rosetta". "Blues in Thirds", another of his tunes, is performed here by a glorious trio including Sidney Bechet and Baby Dodds. The rest of the CD showcases the Earl Hines orchestra in recordings made between 1939 and 1942. Bonus tracks: a complete trio session recorded for Signature in 1944 (with Fats Waller's regular guitar player Al Casey and virtuoso bassist Oscar Pettiford), plus a rare V-Disc version of Hines' big hit "Boogie Woogie on Saint Louis Blues".
