The most celebrated musician of the Cuban son, Compay Segundo became a Cuban music icon during the last few years of the 20th century. Singer, composer, and musician extraordinaire, he not only developed a personal style, he also invented his own instrument called the 'armonico' which was custom made to fit his specific needs.
Directed by Ileana Rodriguez - and with musical supervision by Maria Elena Mendiola - this DVD tells the story of the great Compay Segundo, a man whose hundred year life was replete was countless musical and personal achievements. During his long professional career, Segundo had the opportunity to perform with such legendary Cuban musicians as Miguel Matamoros and Benny Moré among others. But it wasn't until he participated in the recording of the classic disc the "Buena Vista Social Club" that Segundo's fame became cemented in stone - obtaining a Grammy Award in 1998.
There have been many great troubadors, but Compay was the myth and reigning living legend until his recent death. Compay Segundo, without a shadow of a doubt, will remain one of the most important Cuban musicians of all times.
