A wonderful collection of rare work by bandleader Chico O'Farrill -- known well for his American recordings of the 50s and 60s, but featured here in sessions from Havana and Mexico City from the early 50s! The Havana sessions date from 1953, and feature a dozen tracks that have a glistening Cuban jazz take on the swing sound of the US -- played by a group with Chocolate Armenteros on trumpet. The Mexican sessions are from one year later, 1954, and have a similar feel, but also seem to feature a bit more Latin American compositions, including many by Ernesto Lecuona.
