Billy Taylors 1956-1958 trio with Earl May and Ed Thigpen was one of the most consistently excellent and underrated piano/bass/drums trios of the period. This release contains the final twelve of the eighteen tracks that the three musicians recorded together within the trio format. Upon leaving Taylors trio at the end of 1958, Thigpen joined Oscar Petersons trio with Ray Brown, which is widely revered as one of the finest piano trios in the history of the idiom. The music featured here is of the same calibre.
