Lionel Belmondo
The initiator of some of the most fruitful musical adventures of recent years, Lionel Belmondo is one of the keepers of French swinging around hexagonal jazz. From the hot quintet he formed with his trumpeter brother Stéphane to his long-term exploration of the possible connections between jazz and post-impressionist French music with the ensemble Hymne au soleil (four Jazz Victories), including his experiences with Horace Silver and the late Yusef Lateef or his electro afro-trips with DJ Fred Galliano, the saxophonist is a tireless pioneer of the powers and possibilities of music, inhabited by an energy that recalls the great heroes of the jazz tradition.
