Randy Greer
Matthew Randal Greer IV was born in San Francisco in 1960. Grandson of Duke Ellington’s famous drummer Sonny Greer, he was “baptised” by Charles Mingus at his parents’ Soulville club. While his origins are steeped in jazz, his voice recalls that of Nat King Cole, with a romantic tone and plenty of swing, and other greats like Cab Calloway, Stevie Wonder and Ella Fitzgerald.
In 1991, Greer and pianist Ignasi Terraza came together for the first time on stage, sharing their admiration and respect for the great Nat Cole. Today, after different joint projects together, Greer sets romanticism and swing with intimate, joyful music, as vehicle for a sensitive and expansive repertory, that moves and touches us. A set of timeless classic tunes which, in his voice, sound more contemporary than ever.
