Roy Burns (1935-2018), was possibly the youngest drummer ever to play with the big name bands. He worked with Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Charles Mingus and Joe Bushkin. At the peak of his career as a big band drummer, Roy decided to change his course. He began working with young drummers in high schools and colleges. Rogers' Drums and the CBS Musical Instruments Division signed him as a Staff Artist, and over the past several years in that capacity, Roy has established himself as the world’s leading percussion clinician, as well as one of the great solo artists of his day.

His work on this record is heavy evidence of his talent. And “The Big, Bad & Beautiful Drum Set & Method Book,” which Roy put together, is an exceptional study for young drummers. The book contains the drum parts of all eight Dick Grove charts on the record, with detailed commentary and practice instructions on playing the parts. There is also a great deal of information on styles, brushes, recording techniques, etc. Roy has eleven other books on the market, but feels this is the finest one he has produced to date.
