Born in Argentina, Sergio Gruz studied Jazz piano with Santiago Giacobbe and Edgardo Beilin, and Classical music with Suzana Bonora and Claudio Spector.

In 1992, during a tour in France with the "Sexteto Sur" and Adriana Varela, he was asked to play at the famous "Trottoir de Buenos Aires". One year later he moves to Paris and plays in many clubs ("Le Petit Journal Montparnasse", "Sunset", "Sunside", "Le Bilboquet", "7 Lézards", "Le Chabada", "New Morning", "Les Trinitaires", "Le Baisé Salé"...) and internationally renowned festivals (the Belgian Jazz Festival, the Leverkussen Jazz Festival in Germany, the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada, the Santo Domingo Jazz Festival in Dominican Republic, the Tanjazz festival in Morocco, and the Ethno Jazz Festival of Chisinau in Moldava, among others.)

He also teaches at the "Salle Pleyel" music school and at "Musiques Tangentes". Beside being a soloist and a sideman (Ricardo Izquierdo, Sylvain del Campo, Damien Prud'homme...), he works for theatre, cinema and contemporary dance. He is the author of the soundtrack music of two Argentinian movies "Terapias Alternativas" in 2007 and "SOS Ex" in 2008, and composed a music piece for Orchestra and Jazz Quartet that was performed in 2006 at the Nancy Jazz Festival.

Since 2013, he composes the music in teasers and commercials for the Quai Branly Museum in Paris.
