Etienne Déconfin was born in 1990 in Bourges, to musician parents, both passionate about jazz and classical music. He grew up in an intense and varied musical universe, which very naturally led him to begin studying classical piano at the age of 5. At 13, he stopped classical lessons and moved towards jazz, attracted by freedom and improvisation. He then immersed himself in musicians such as Bill Evans, Michel Petrucciani, Keith Jarrett, John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner and Oscar Peterson. He played in several jazz groups between 2003 and 2005.

In 2006, he met Géraud Portal, with whom he performed regularly. During the summer of 2007, he met the alto saxophonist Gaël Horellou, the bass player François Gallix and the tenor saxophonist Tony Pagano, whose pianist he was for three years.

Since 2010, he has performed regularly on stages in Paris, France and abroad, alongside musicians such as Abraham Burton, Gaël Horellou, Ari Hoenig, Simon Goubert, Jeremy Pelt, Lionel Belmondo, Yoann Serra, Lolo Bellonzi, Marcus Miller, Antoine Paganotti, Michel Zenino, Olivier Temime, Mokthar Samba, Jonas Bäckman…

He recorded several albums with saxophonist Gaël Horellou, in sextet, in quintet with Abraham Burton, quartet with Ari Hoenig, in quintet with Jeremy Pelt. In 2013, with Géraud Portal in New York, he recorded with American musicians Ben Solomon, Kush Abadey, Arnold Lee, in Géraud Portal’s project “Fort Greene Story.” In 2014 a trio album was recorded in New York with Kush Abadey and Géraud Portal, “Brothers.”

In 2021 he joined saxophonist Olivier Temime’s new project, “Inner Songs”. Numerous tours in France and abroad, in Trio (G. Portal, K. Abadey), in quartet (Gaël Horellou, Ari Hoenig, Viktor Nyberg), etc…

In 2022, he officially formed his new trio with Viktor Nyberg and Antoine Paganotti, with the recording of the album “Wanted” (released in 2024 on the Fresh Sound New Talent label).
