This underrated swinging bop group was earmarked by the distinctive sound of Julius Watkins on French horn. The band also included Monk sax player Charlie Rouse, pianist Gildo Mahones, drummer Ron Jefferson, and sometimes percussionist Chino Pozo.

Five albums were recorded by Les Jazz Modes/Les Modes in the mid- to late '50s, the hardcore for the Dawn and Atlantic inprints.
