A Getz-Mulligan meeting on record was inevitable sooner or later. In capturing both saxophonists for a joint date and providing them with a superb rhythm section, Norman Granz produced a fine jazz album with a unique twist. Getz and Mulligan were asked to switch horns on three tunes. The idea produced some interesting comparisons between the styles of both musicians. Gerry still gets a rather rough-and-ready sound, full of robust phrases, while Stan glisses and slides in his accustomed fashion.
On the other selections both men solo in happy, spirited fashion in their home horns. Throughout, Levy plays with impeccable style and well-conceived ideas, swinging all the way. It all adds up to a hugely enjoyable listening experience.
"While Getz and Mulligan aren't as tight as say... Coleman and Eldridge on a few of their albums, there's not a bad tune on this album. Every song swings!"
—Scott Ellis (All Music Guide)
